Our Other Programs:
Other Programs Operated by The Pig Preserve Association, Inc .
The Pig Preserve Association, Inc. is the result of a merger between The Pig Preserve and a long-standing pig service organization called the Pigs As Pets Association (PAPA).
For the first time the functions of a sanctuary and a pet pig oriented service group have combined forces to work for the good of all pigs...regardless of breed or background.
Several programs and special funds, which have been operated successfully by PAPA, are now part of The Pig Preserve Association:
The Large Rescue Fund The Sabrina Fund The Snouts And Paws Program
The Large Rescue Fund (established by Joan Poster, DVM):
The Large Rescue Fund was established to assist with the spaying and neutering of pigs from large rescues. The Fund does not provide funds to assist with other aspects of large rescues such as fencing, transportation or other logistical expenses.
A panel of three advisors (not including the Director of The Pig Preserve) receives, investigates, processes and evaluates each request for assistance under the Large Rescue Fund. If approved, the funds are disbursed directly to the veterinarian(s) providing the services.
For more complete information on the Large Rescue Fund or to donate to the Fund, go to www.thepigpreserveassociation.org and click on the Large Rescue Fund icon.
The Sabrina Fund (established by Joan Poster, DVM):
The Sabrina Fund was established to help private pet pig owners meet the costs of unexpected medical emergencies involving their pigs, excluding routine spays and neuters.
The Fund provides one-time, cost sharing grants to help defray the often-expensive medical procedures required to save the life of a beloved family pet. A panel of three advisors (again, excluding the Director of The Pig Preserve) reviews all requests for assistance, evaluates the medical aspects of the situation, assess the owner's ability to pay for the procedures and, if approved, sees that the funds are disbursed directly to the veterinarian providing the service to the pig.

The Snouts And Paws Program:
The Snouts And Paws Program is a one time, cost-sharing grant designed to assist individual, private pet pig owners. Pet pig owners who are contemplating having to put their pig up for adoption or relocate the pig to a sanctuary can apply to The Snouts And Paws Program for a variety of types of assistance. The Program will help fund fencing material, material for upgrading living shelters, assist with feed costs and will, on occasion, assist with spay/neuter costs.
The goal of this program is to try and keep an established pet pig in his/her home rather than forcing the pig into the rescue or adoption pipeline. This not only benefits the pet pig living in the home, but also reduces the number of pigs entering the rescue/adoption process. In short, it is a win/win situation for the pigs, the owners and for rescuers.
A member of the board of directors of The Pig Preserve Association manage and disburse the funds for this program and monitor its effectiveness.
